MCT IMPROVES FREQUENCY AND ADJUSTS ROUTES

Service Changes Effective August 17, 2008

GRANITE CITY, ILL., August 11, 2008 . . . At a time when fuel prices are at an all time high and transit has experienced unprecedented ridership growth, Madison County Transit (MCT) will be making schedule and route adjustments to bus routes as part of its regular August Service Change, effective August 17, 2008.

The most significant service improvement is to the #14X Highland Express. The #14X provides commuter service from park and ride lots on U.S. 40 in Highland, St. Jacob, and Troy to St. Louis and MetroLink. Three additional morning and three additional afternoon trips will be added to the #14X Monday through Friday, creating a one-hour period when buses will leave for St. Louis every 10 minutes. The improvements to the #14X will provide better frequency and greater flexibility for commuters in the U.S. 40 corridor.

MCT has also implemented designated stops for the #12X Bethalto Express. To create a faster, more efficient route, MCT has named 12 designated express stops, which are marked with new “MCT Express Bus Stop” signs along the route.

Other changes to MCT routes include minor route or schedule adjustments to the: #15 Collinsville Shuttle, #19 Collinsville-Edwardsville, #12 Bethalto Shuttle, #10 State and Elm Shuttle, and #6EZ Ride. For specific details, please pick up a new bus route schedule dated ‘August 17, 2008’ on any MCT bus, at MCT transfer stations, at distribution locations throughout Madison County, or on-line at www.mct.org. For more information or assistance, please contact MCT at 931-RIDE (7433), Option #3.

Madison County Transit (MCT) enhances the mobility of the St. Louis region by providing multi-modal transportation services. MCT operates a fixed-route bus service, connecting to MetroLink; express weekday commuter service directly to and from downtown St. Louis; and seasonal express service to the Rams games and the Muny. For elderly and disabled residents who are unable to use the fixed-route buses, MCT provides complementary paratransit bus service. MCT is also responsible for the construction and maintenance of more than 85 miles of trails in Madison County that comprise the MCT trails bikeway system, as well as overseeing RideFinders, the St. Louis region’s FREE carpooling and vanpooling program. For more information on MCT services, routes and schedules, call (618) 931-7433, Option 3, or visit www.mct.org.
