MCT TO HOST PUBLIC MEETINGS

Opportunity for Residents to Comment on Proposed Fare Increase and Paratransit Modifications

GRANITE CITY, ILL., February 2, 2009 ... The Madison County Transit (MCT) Board of Trustees heard recommendations last week for a proposed fixed route and Paratransit fare increase as well as proposed service modifications. To solicit public comment on the proposals, MCT will host five meetings throughout Madison County in March. At their regular meeting on March 26, 2009, MCT Trustees will review comments and take action on the proposal. If approved, the fare increase would take effect on May 10, 2009 and service modifications would take effect in two phases: July 1, 2009 and January 1, 2010. Dates, times and locations of MCT public meetings are listed below:

Tuesday, March 3, (6 – 7 p.m.)	Alton Square (near the food court)
Wednesday, March 4, (2 – 3 p.m.)	Troy City Hall in Troy
Wednesday, March 4, (6 – 7 p.m.)	MCT Granite City Station in Granite City
Thursday, March 5, (2 – 3 p.m.)	MCT Wood River Station in Wood River
Thursday, March 5, (6 – 7 p.m.)	MCT Edwardsville Station in Edwardsville

Madison County Transit (MCT) enhances the mobility of the St. Louis region by providing multi-modal transportation services. MCT operates a fixed-route bus service locally and regionally connecting to MetroLink; express weekday commuter service directly to and from downtown St. Louis; and seasonal express service to the Rams games and the Muny. For elderly and disabled residents who are unable to use the fixed-route buses, MCT provides Paratransit curb-to-curb service known as Runabout. MCT is also responsible for the construction and maintenance of nearly 100 miles of scenic Madison County bikeways known as the MCT Trails, as well as overseeing RideFinders, the St. Louis region’s FREE carpooling and vanpooling program.
