MCT TO PROVIDE FREE SUMMER YOUTH PASSES FOR 22,000 STUDENTS

Free Summer Bus Passes for 7th through 12th Grade Students in Madison County

GRANITE CITY, ILL., May 5, 2008 . . . In an effort to improve transportation services for Madison County residents at a time when transit becomes increasingly popular due to rising fuel prices, MCT will be making schedule and route adjustments to bus routes as part of its regular May Service Change, effective May 11, 2008. The most significant improvement is the upgrade of the #4 Madison-Edwardsville to 30 minute service between the MCT Granite City and MCT Edwardsville Stations, which includes extending the service later into the evening. The improvements to the #4 will provide better frequency and greater flexibility for students at Southwestern Illinois College in Granite City and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, as well as employees at the Madison County Court House and Administrative offices in downtown Edwardsville.

MCT will also shift the routing of all eastbound afternoon MCT Express routes in St. Louis to improve schedule reliability. The route of the afternoon Express buses will remain unchanged until 7th Street, where the buses will turn right onto Washington and left onto 4th Street before heading east into Illinois. The last stop in St. Louis will be at 7th & Locust.

Other changes to MCT routes include: The extension of the #10 State and Elm Shuttle to serve Woodview Court Apartments in Alton; and minor time changes to the following: the #5 Tri-City Metrobus will shift its Saturday southbound start time to improve MetroLink connections; the #18 Collinsville Metrobus wait times at Collinsville Station will be adjusted; and the times of one #19 Edwardsville-Collinsville trip will be shifted.

For specific details, please pick up a new bus route schedule dated ‘May 11, 2008’ on any MCT bus, at MCT transfer stations, at distribution locations throughout Madison County, or on-line at www.mct.org. For more information or assistance, please contact MCT at 931-RIDE (7433), Option #3.
