MCT Saddened by Vehicle Collision and Fatality in Granite City
At approximately 7:30 this morning, Tuesday, June 23, an 86 year-old Granite City, Illinois man was fatally injured in a vehicle
collision with a Madison County Transit (MCT) bus on IL-203 in Granite City.
The individual was taken to Gateway Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Two MCT passengers and the driver of the MCT vehicle were injured in the collision and were taken by ambulance to area hospitals.
All three of these individuals are in stable condition and are expected to be released today.
The MCT vehicle was traveling northbound on IL-203, south of Maryville Road in Granite City, when the accident occurred.
The accident is currently under investigation, but upon initial review, it appears that the MCT driver acted according to his
training and made every effort possible to avoid collision.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the individuals who were injured this morning, and we extend
our deepest sympathies to the family of the gentleman who was fatally injured today,” said MCT Managing
Director Jerry Kane. “I also want to commend the first responders, specifically the Granite City Police
and Fire Departments who were both on the scene immediately.”
