MCT Rolls Into Madison County Classrooms
Local Children were ‘Learning in Motion’ with MCT this fall.
The hallways of Madison County schools are buzzing about buses, bikes and ridesharing thanks to “Learning in Motion,” a
program developed by RideFinders, which is operated by Madison County Transit (MCT). Initiated in the fall of 2004, the
program is designed to increase awareness of MCT's multi-modal transportation services and emphasize how these services
help reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.
Third Grade Program
Nearly 2,000 3rd grade students from more than 30 Madison County schools participated in “Learning in Motion’s”
inaugural run in fall 2004. The program features a 30-minute, interactive presentation that uses visual aids to highlight
the benefits of alternative transportation modes. Following the presentation, each student receives an original activity
book, which tells the story of Gail and Gus, two kids searching for a better way to get where they need to go.
Seventh Grade Program
Beginning spring 2005, MCT will initiate an interactive program for 7th grade students in Madison County schools.
The program at this level outlines MCT's multi-modal transportation services and engages students to consider and discuss
the benefits of these services. They will also participate in group activities to become skilled at reading and using a
route map, and calculating the cost savings and environmental savings of using alternative transportation modes.
